FEW TIPS BEFORE AND AFTER GETTING YOUR CUSTOM AIRBRUSH TAN

Hello to the spring in Chicago!!

As the weather gets better we will be taking more and more winter clothes off:) No more hiding under heavy sweaters, long pants, coats and boots- time for shorts and dresses! Most of us don't like to look like Casper the friendly ghost and rush to get a tan. I hope You are choosing the healthies and best looking one- custom airbrush.

Here is a few tips for You - preparing before spray tan is crucial. What you do can mean a difference between a good and a bad spray tan.

For the healthiest tan let's start with the healthy skin.

- EXFOLIATE using a body brush, exfoliating glove or scrub the day prior to your tan (doing so the day of your appointment will open up your pores and could cause the solution to accumulate in your pores). This promotes an even coverage and lengthens the duration of your tan by removing dead skin that would otherwise flake off.

- 1 DAY BEFORE wax, mani/pedi.

- SHAVE minimum 8 hours prior, use sharp razor with shaving cream or hair conditioner.

- NO make up, perfume, deodorant, any lotion, moisturizer. Some moisturizers and makeup products can act as a barrier, not letting the full amount of the solution to attach itself to the skin and deodorant might turn into green color.

- PLEASE WEAR dark clothes and shoes as loose as possible to wear after your spray tanning session, to make sure nothing rubs off. Do not wear clothing made of wool, nylon or silk immediately following your spray tan. Spray tan solution washes out of most clothing, but the cosmetic bronzer could wipe off on lighter colored clothes, giving temporary discoloration.

- BRING a clip to pull your hair up or shower cup

POST TAN MAINTENANCE is very important as well.

Avoid rain, sweating, and exposure to water for 8 hours

Do not wash your hands for at least 4 hours,do not shower for at least 8-10 hours, allowing your spray tan to absorb completely into your skin.

- When taking a first shower use lukewarm water and mild shower gel. You will notice some brown color in the water. This is just the cosmetic bronzer washing off revealing your actual, beautifully tanned skin underneath.  Avoid scrubbing your skin and hair removal products (do not use loofas or washcloths).

MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE: the more you moisturize afterward, the longer your tan will last. Apply moisturizer everyday in the morning and evening after your post-tan shower. Do not use moisturizers that contain a high alcohol content or alpha-hydroxy, this is a form of exfoliation and can shorten the length of your spray tan. Remember the best way to moisturize is from the inside out.  The more water you drink the longer your tan will last.

- Avoid long, hot baths and showers .

- Chlorine in swimming pools and hot tubs can remove or shorten the longevity of your tan.

If I only knew, back in those days, what I know now about tanning it would have saved me quite a lot of freckles, dark sun spots and few wrinkles. These souvenirs are the result of my careless tanning habits like spending every waking minute laying out and basking in the sun by my pool, on the beach or on my friend's rooftop. I loved going to Florida for every long weekend and just lay..the best between 11-4..with SPF 4 or baby oil..oh yeas! If I could save few bucks on tanning I would use the natural resources without looking at the consequences. Unfortunately, the sun can do a lot more than just give you this beautiful color and warm summer glow. The consequences followed and now I have to live with them. They are especially visible on my skin during the winter season when the skin is not exposed to the sun and its color goes back to it's natural shade. Last few years I have noticed the presence of new freckles, sun spots and skin dryness which I find alarming. I decided to research the topic of tanning. Not just for me but for my friends also.
The first thing I discovered is that there are many myths about indoor and outdoor tanning and that we have all made tanning mistakes in our lives at one point or another. We all spend too much time in the sun thinking that if our skin doesn't look too red or if it doesn't burn everything is OK. Any dermatologist or physician would tell you that is untrue. For some skin types, such as those with olive or deep golden color, the visibility of a burn is not easy to detect, but it does not mean that the skin is safe from UV damage. There is no skin type that is excluded from the risks of sun exposure. My mother always said that being in the sun gives us Vitamin D, which is true but it is not the only way to give our body the Vitamin D it requires. Vitamin D is found in foods such as fatty fish (like mackerel and salmon), and it is also available in supplements.
The idea of golden, sun-kissed skin is so attractive and appealing, probably because naturally I do not have golden or olive skin tone and Chicago's weather doesn't provide ideal outdoor tanning conditions.  But I do like how sexy I look tanned :)
Often times it is difficult to find time for regular tanning outdoors or using tanning beds indoors while I have to go to a dinner in the evening or my girlies have another party planned for the weekend. The worst thing is going on vacation in the middle of our winter. As you arrive to this beautiful full of palms destination, you look like a ghost comparing to other folks who have been there already for a few days:)

You probably wonder what is the solution to all of this than ?
It is in sunless tanning which is healthy, quick and easy and gives the best results.

I decided to dedicate this blog to all the sun kissed skin lovers and give you updates, safety tips and solutions for happy, healthy skin.
